It is hard to believe that this school year is coming to an end.  I know that the year did not end the way we all wanted it to, but I hope that you all found opportunities to stay connected and engaged with learning provided with the Virtual Grade Level Choice Boards provided by your teachers as well as the Alternate Virtual Learning Choice Boards that I provided.  For those of you moving on to Middle School, I know that each of you will Soar with the Eagles!  For those of you returning to Mountain View in the fall, I wish you the best!  To each of you, know that I have been enriched by the opportunity to work with you this year.  Wishing you a summer filled with adventure and fun!

Each week I will continue to send out emails to the students and parents with an Alternate Virtual Choice Board to provide additional learning opportunities.  Remember my office hours are 11am until noon on Wednesday.

Important Updates as of March 23, 2020

By order of the Governor of Virginia, all Prince William County Public Schools will remain closed to students through the end of the 2019-2020 school year (June 2020), due to the health concerns caused by COVID-19 (coronavirus).

Students and Parents:

I encourage you to check your emails and my classroom page frequently for important information.

Stay Well,

Mrs. Amy Darden

Updates as of March 20, 2020

Hello students and parents:

I hope that all of you are doing well.  Know that you are missed!  I miss being at school and being an active part of your daily learning. I am looking forward to when we can return to Mountain View to continue our face to face learning.  As we all are unable to be in school, does not mean that learning has stopped for you or me.  Be sure to take time each day to read, practice math and writing skills.  There are so many fun ways to stay engaged with learning even when you are not at school.  Write a letter to a friend, relative or to me!  I would love to read your letters!  If you write me a letter, I will be sure to write you back. Demonstrate your knowledge of math skills learned by creating a video of how to solve a math problem, explaining the steps.  Get in the kitchen and put your measuring skills to work as you double a favorite cookie recipe.  You know that I love to bake, especially vegan cookies and muffins. Read a favorite book and discuss the characters, setting and events with a parent or video chat about it with a relative or send me a video of you discussing what you have read. Learning is not defined by a building or location.  Learning takes place when we open our minds to being creative and exploring all that is around us.

I have included a link above to Clever, where you can access many programs that you use often.  IXL is a great resource and allows you to access all academic content.  I have also included links on my page under Useful Links that provide access to Scholastic articles as well as Storyline Online.

During this time be sure to get some fresh air, exercise and rest.  I look forward to seeing you all soon!

I am excited about this school year. This is my third year as a Mountain View Cougar.  I taught 10 years at Gainesville Middle School.
As a Special Education teacher, my role is to support the students to ensure that they are working towards meeting their educational goals.
