2017 Future Educational Technology Excellence Award

The research center of our
MakerSpace is the Library.
The Library connects students to the
various centers to design, create, and
collaborate while integrating STEAM and
the engineering design process.

Our staff responded to the changing needs of students for success in the 21st century. MVES was the first elementary school in Prince William County to partner with the University of Mary Washington to create a curriculum-focused MakerSpace. This innovative space was designed to encourage the use of current and emerging technology tools that support creativity, innovation, and personal engagement within the STEAM fields. Students participate in the Design Process and create solutions to problems posed in a hands-on, inquiry-based approach. Staff incorporates content areas into cohesive units that enable students to see and experience the interrelationship between curriculum areas.
