Attendance

Attendance and Tardies

Under Virginia Law, students are responsible for attending school every day that school is in session. Absences, tardies, and/or early dismissals must have documented approval from a parent/guardian and/or school personnel.

Attendance

Attendance and punctuality are top priorities for all Mountain View students. Research indicates a high correlation in the relationship between a child's success and their attendance at school. The nature of the curriculum necessitates active classroom participation. In addition, Prince William County has identified improved student attendance as part of the Strategic Improvement Plan.

A student must attend at least a half of a day in order to be counted present. If your child leaves early at the end of the day, they may not be marked as attending a full day of school.

Absences

Absences shall be excused on the basis of verified contact with the parent for the following reasons:

1. Personnel illness of the student.

2. Medical and dental examination and/or treatment of the student when such appointments cannot be scheduled other than during school hours.

3. Death in the family of the parent or guardian.

4. Observation of a religious holiday; and

5. Emergency conditions in the student's home which require help from the student in caring for the sick or injured; however, regular use of this excuse or requests for absences for an extended period of time shall be referred to Student Services for evaluation.
