Dear Parents of Students in Mrs. Lint’s Class,
Please note that Mrs. Lint’s classroom will be a Peanut/Tree nut free classroom for the 2016-17 school year! There is at least one student in your child’s class this year that has severe peanut/tree nut allergies. Avoidance of peanut/tree nut products is the best way to prevent life-threatening allergic reactions for children with severe peanut/tree nut allergies.
It is important to note that if exposed to peanuts/ tree nuts, students with severe peanut/tree nut allergies may develop a life-threatening allergic reaction that requires emergency medical treatment. The greatest potential for exposure at school is to peanut/nut products. We ask that you please do not send any peanut or nut-containing products for your child to eat during snack time in the classroom. Often times it is difficult to determine which items are safe, simply by reading the ingredients therefore any bulk item food brought into the classroom to be shared with the class must be brought to the school nurse in advance so that she can review the ingredients and ensure that this item is safe for the classroom. Please note that any exposure to peanuts or tree nuts through contact or ingestion can cause a severe reaction. If your child has eaten peanuts/nuts prior to coming to school, please be sure your child’s hands and face have been thoroughly washed prior to entering school.
Because lunch is eaten in the cafeteria, your child may bring peanut butter, peanut, or nut products in a closed container to be opened and eaten in the cafeteria. In the cafeteria, there will be a designated “allergy safe zone” with blue placemats near the center aisle where any student with food allergies can sit. This plan will help to maintain safety in the classroom while allowing non-allergic classmates to enjoy peanut/nut products in a controlled environment.
We appreciate your support of these procedures so that we can keep all students safe at school! If you have any questions, please contact me.
