Following is our April 23rd curriculum update:
SCIENCE - SOL DATE: May 10th -- In science, we are beginning our 4th grade review in preparation for our May 10th SOL. We are following an outline that I have given to each student. They are creating their own SOL review booklet. Each day in class, I will be teaching a mini lesson on a 4th grade science strand. The students will then complete a few review SOL questions on that topic. We will then be putting a summary in their own booklet. These will be collected each day and assessed. I have attached a picture of one of our former student's work to show you what this looks like. This has been a great way to review prior 4th grade knowledge. These are to be housed in their THUNK folders if you want to look at how your student is doing.
READING - SOL DATE: May 14th -- We are currently learning about author's purpose and functional text. We will review non-fiction text features, cause and effect, summaries, word study, figurative language, poetry, plot and much more over these next couple of weeks. Your child has a wonderful interactive reading notebook that can aid in the review process, they are encouraged to bring this notebook home and use it to study (make sure it comes back to school every day though). In addition, students created index cards featuring the 20 of the most common prefixes and suffixes. This is another great resource for studying for the SOL. The May 1st IXL assignment is due next week... students have the exact assignment glued into their Agenda (it's been in there since March)!
MATH - SOL DATE: May 17th -- We've started our last math unit on patterns and algebra. We have 3 more J-Lab assignments due on the next 3 Fridays. This is a great opportunity to get 3 more A's for the 4th quarter! We are spiral reviewing during our warm-ups and will do a concentrated review after our next unit test.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to us!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Rhodes
