Art Class!

Home Learning lessons

We're going to start off with some lessons from the 100 Sketchbook Prompts recommended by PWCS.  Each one here has been selected to match with an assignment already completed in the art room.  Feel free to try any, or all, of them and check out the other 94.

Draw a family portrait. Plot twist: It is a family of insects
Kindergarten students drew large insects, now try and draw a family of them posing for a portrait.

Draw family members with things that are important to them.  First graders drew each other in the art room, now expand that to your family and add an object.

Draw a flower. Make it dangerous.
Second graders studied Georgia O'Keeffe and her flower drawings, try this for a fun twist.

Create three drawings of messes you have made.
Third graders drew objects on the art room tables to make a still life.  I'm sure some messes have been made at home, try drawing the mess before you clean up.

Draw an imaginary place, adding all kinds of details.
In fourth grade we made drawings of imaginary exo-planets.  Now draw a landscape of the surface of that planet (is it inhabited, advanced, prehistoric?) and don't forget great details.

Make a drawing that is completely and utterly impossible.
One of the major projects in fifth grade was surrealism.  Remember the melting clocks from "Persistence of Memory" and create.

The art room is where we learn about artists, art history, and criticism while creating our own works.  We focus on the elements of design in elementary school (line, color, value, texture, shape, form and space).  We implement T.A.B. (Teaching Artistic Behavior) near the end of the year.  This is a time when the art room becomes an 'open studio' and the students are free to work on their own projects.
